Welcome

Resident Resources

This site is an effort to pull together all the available online resources for radiation oncology residents. There are great existing sites for studying (like wikibooks), forums (like studentdoctor), other educational info (like ARRO) and other relevant topics for residents. Rather than re-create existing content, we're focusing on assembling links to the best content already out there, and spending our efforts to fill in the gaps.

So far, the gaps we've been looking at include:
1. The treatment field database. We got permission from the publisher of Perez to include images and some descriptions of field borders and considerations. There's not really anything like this elsewhere, and feedback so far has been positive. The format is wiki, so you can contribute and modify to improve what's there.
2. Case series. We're putting together a series of cases in presentation format. You can click through the slides to quiz yourself on the basic management decisions and issues for bread and butter radiation oncology
3. Mentor program. There are a lot of radiation oncologists who are well-established in their careers who have plenty of advice to give on starting out, transitioning and moving, legal issues, etc. We've created a database of mentor volunteers as a way of formalizing this resource. Once you sign up, you can access the list of potential mentors, find one that has expertise in the area in which you would like mentorship, and contact them directly.

ACRO's Resident Committee

The Resident Committee was formally started in 2008 and consists of volunteers from around the country who have an interest in improving residency related issues in radiation oncology. The committee provides formal feedback to the ACRO Board of Chancellors and meets several times a year via teleconference or in person. Applications are accepted in the spring and 2 year appointments are made to successful applicants finishing their first or second year of radiation oncology training.

Current committee members include:
Waseet Vance (past chair)- Columbia University-NYP
Mitch Kamrava (past chair)- NCI
Shane Hopkins (chair and AMA rep)- Roswell Park Cancer Institute
Brandon Fisher- Drexel
Mohammad Khan- Cleveland Clinic
Tony Wang (ARRO Executive Committee member)- Columbia University-NYP
Shilpen Patel (advisor)- University of Washington

The 2010 application is available here).
